1431 - 1863
The Post-Angkor period, Thailand and Vietnam were slowly encroaching it. Then in 1863, Cambodia became a French protectorate to avoid all the problems with Thailand and Vietnam.
1953
In 1953, Cambodia gained independence under King Nurodom Sihanouk.
1970 - 1975
Cambodia was known as the Khmer Republic, established by General Lon Noel and backed by the U.S. Fought against Khmer Rouge forces before it collapsed in April of 1975.

Angkor Wat
For many centuries Angkor was the center of the Khmer Empire. It’s one of the largest archaeological sites in the world. Angkor Wat is a UNESCO world heritage site located in the northern province of Siem Reap.
